By presenting new user technology, expressive new styling and a new value standard, the 2009 Galant brings Mitsubishi performance and character to the highly competitive midsize segment. This competent mid-size sedan offers high level safety along with great looks and impressive performance. For 2009 new uninterrupted grille design offers a better look than the prior split version and the new Lancer-inspired taillights and slightly reshaped fenders are a big improvement.
Power and performance
The 2009 Galant is available in four distinct trim levels: ES, Sport Edition, Sport V6 and Ralliart, and three performance levels, providing a wide array of choice for the mid-size car buyers. A 160-horsepower 2.4-liter MIVEC 4-cylinder engine powers the Galant ES and Sport Edition models, while the Sport V-6 model exclusively features a 230-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6 engine. The performance-tuned Galant Ralliart, powered by a 258-horsepower 3.8-liter MIVEC V-6 engine tops the line. All 2009 Galant models come standard with a Sportronic?? automatic transmission - a 4-speed with the 4-cylinder engine and a 5-speed with the two V-6 engines. Sportronic allows manual shift control for a more engaging driving experience. Galant Ralliart can rise from zero-to-60 mph in about six seconds, making it one of the best performers in its segment.
Body and styling
With a smartly styled front end and sophisticated new lines that are especially apparent in the rear three-quarter view, the 2009 Galant stands apart from the sedan crowd. Stylish new hood lines, a new grille and lower intake highlight the completely re-designed front end give it a completely freshened look. The rear view of Galant features high-mounted stop-lamp, wider rear glass, new tail lamps and bumper treatment, and a new deck lid with a center. The two Sport models have power glass sunroof, auto-dimming rear view mirror with Homelink transmitter and heated cloth front seats as standard equipment, while the Ralliart challenges premium performance sedans by providing upscale standard features including heated front seats, perforated leather-trimmed seating surfaces, automatic climate control system and power glass sunroof.
Safety Features
Mitsubishi Galant's extremely rigid unibody construction with floor crossmembers, high-rigidity side sills, side-impact door beams, and front and rear crumple zones provide an excellent architecture for safety. All the models are equipped with advanced safety gadgets including anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), dual-stage front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, side front and rear curtain airbags and tire pressure monitoring system. Galant Sport V-6 and Ralliart models are equipped with standard traction control that helps prevent wheel spin by monitoring and controlling the speed of each front drive wheel.
